Protegé of Rei Kawakubo, Junya Watanabe founded his own label under the Comme des Garçons umbrella in 1993, later introducing menswear in 2002. The collections manage to be modern and timeless at once as classic styles are reinvented in new ways. Skilled at mixing and layering fabrics, Watanabe has an appreciation for the construction of military uniforms and workwear and is known for his innovative tailoring.
