A protégé of Rei Kawakubo, Junya Watanabe launched his namesake label under the Comme des Garçons umbrella in 1993, introducing menswear in 2002. Known for experimental tailoring and textile innovation, Watanabe reworks classic menswear archetypes—military jackets, workwear staples, denim and outerwear—through a technical and often conceptual lens. His collections are grounded in tradition but push boundaries through unexpected fabrics and construction. Ongoing collaborations with brands like New Balance, Levi’s, Loewe, Nike and The North Face have become integral to the line, blending heritage design with forward-thinking functionality.
