Raf Simons founded his namesake label in 1995 and has from the start solely concentrated on menswear. At first, Simons graduated in industrial and furniture design after having interned at the design studio of Walter Van Beirendonck. he started working for various galleries in Antwerp before making his drastic career change into a self-trained fashion designer. Ten years after the launch of his own label, Simons was appointed creative director of Jil Sander where he remained until 2012 when he was appointed creative director of Dior. The Raf Simons aesthetic has always been very independent. Earlier collections take inspiration from various youth subcultures and his background in industrial design where later collections have focused more on shapes and form.
